It is that time of year again when we need to prepare for possible disruption caused by heavy snow over the next few months.
In the event of heavy snowfall, we have to consider the following factors before making the decision to close the school:
Is the school site safe and accessible for the children, parents and staff?
Not all members of staff live locally. Can those who live further afield or in more rural areas travel to and from school safely?
Are there enough staff in school to maintain the recommended adult:child ratios?
Are there enough trained first aiders in school, including the paediatric first aider required in Early Years?
The decision to close the school for any reason must be agreed jointly by the Chair of Governors and the Headteadcher. This decision is never taken lightly.
In the event of heavy snowfall during the school day:
We may ask you to come and collect your child(ren) before the end of the school day. We will inform you by text, email and the school website.
In the event of heavy snowfall overnight:
We may take the decision to close the school for the reasons outlined above. We will aim to give you as much notice as possible. However, we may not know until the morning whether or not staff who travel are affected. We will do our best to make the decision and inform you by 7:30 am. Our advice is to have contingency child care arrangements in place, as a precaution, when there is a risk of heavy snow overnight and weather warnings for the area have been issued, particularly if you are a working parent and reliant our breakfast and after school clubs.
Single point of access:
In the event that the school is open but there is heavy snow lying in the grounds, we will only clear one point of access which will be Fernhill Road entrance and the paths leading to the main school office. The Mason road gate will not be open.
Blue, Red and Yellow Classes will all enter via the Red Class side entrance;
Orange, Purple and Green Classes will all enter via the side entrance situated by Orange and Purple Class (by the raised flower bed at the old school entrance).
Star, Sun and Moon Classes will all enter through the School Hall side entrance, opposite the Junior school playground;
IF YOU HAVE NOT RECEIVED CONFIRMATION OF A SCHOOL CLOSURE BY 7:30 AM VIA TEXT, EMAIL OR MESSAGE ON THE WEBSITE HOME PAGE
YOU CAN ASSUME THE SCHOOL IS OPEN AS USUAL.
PLEASE DO NOT CALL THE SCHOOL OFFICE FOR CONFIRMATION.
