Geography

At Manor Infant school, we aim to implement a curriculum that is exciting, inspiring, engaging and challenges all learners to work at the limit of their capability to achieve their potential and ensure High Quality Inclusive Teaching is effective to ensure learning is irresistible and engaging for all learners.

Our Geography curriculum aims to ensure that pupils develop geographical skills that enables children to experience, explore and learn about aspects of the world to help better their understanding of its people, places and environments, and the interactions between them. Geography also helps children understand how and why places are changing, and to better imagine, predict and work towards, likely and preferred futures. Underpinning all of this is a strong spatial component that deepens children’s understanding of what places are like, why and how they are connected, and the importance of location.

Geography and our School Values:

Love of Life and Our World

At Manor Infant School the main purpose of our geography curriculum is to instil a sense of awe and wonder about the world around us. Through effective geography planning our children have the opportunity to develop a sense of curiosity and fascination about the world. They learn ro explore, compare, identify and observe human and physical features through a range of geographical skills. At our school we want to inspire a lifelong love of geography therefore we try to use real places, experiences and issues to make geography come alive and by immersing them in geographical learning through first hand experiences such as observing environments, habitats, recording weather and seasonal patterns.

Exploring and Learning

Throughout the school year the children at Manor Infant School are provided with the opportunities to explore; our school, our local area and beyond, providing opportunities for them to learn and find out new things. We have lots of hands on resources for the children to use such as globes, maps, compasses and Non-Fiction books. We strongly believe that our high quality geography lessons inspire our children to ask questions about the world around them and we provide them with the tools to discover the answers.
