Summer 1

This half term Year 2 will continue to follow the Phase 6 Phonics/ Spelling/ Grammar Curriculum. Please help your child at home to learn these terms and practise applying them.

 

What does the term mean?

Can they give examples where the term has been used? 

Can they spell the examples correctly?

Week 1 - Revisiting Adverbs - irregular and ending in 'ly' - e.g. very, quickly, etc.

Week 2 - Revisiting adding ‘s’ - to nouns and verbs e.g. toys, stops, etc.

Week 3 - Revisiting compound words - for nouns e.g. super and man becomes superman, etc.

 

For Week 4, we will be recapping the following Phase 5 sounds and the spelling patterns for these sounds. Please help your child at home to learn them.

Can they say the sounds?

Can they think of words containing the sounds in them?

Can they read a story and find words where the sounds have been used?

Can they spell words with the sounds below using the different spelling patterns?

Can they read a story and find words where the different spelling patterns have been used for the same sound?

Week 4 - Split diagraphs - a_e, e_e, i_e, o_e, u_e (oo: flute), u_e (yoo: cube)

 

Week 5 - Pronunciations of the letters g and j e.g. giant, c and s e.g. mice
