This half term Year 2 will continue to follow the Phase 6 Phonics/ Spelling/ Grammar Curriculum but will first revisit the spellings patterns for the Phase 5 sounds.
Can they spell words with the sounds below using the different spelling patterns?
Can they read a story and find words where the different spelling patterns have been used for the same sound?
Week 1 - ay, ea, ie and oe
Week 2 - ou, oy, ir, ue - oo/yoo and aw/ou - or
Week 3 - wh and ph
For the rest of this half term, we will continue to follow the Phase 6 Phonics/ Spelling/ Grammar Curriculum. Please help your child at home to learn the key terms and apply the suffixes and punctuation below.
Week 3 - -er, -est, -ful and -less
e.g. small becomes smaller, big becomes bigger, hungry becomes hungrier,
fast becomes fastest, thin becomes thinnest, tidy becomes tidiest,
colour becomes colourful,
harm becomes harmless etc.
Week 4 - possessive apostrophe - 's
e.g. Florence's lamp was very bright but heavy etc.
Week 5 - contractions - '
e.g. can not becomes can't,
it will becomes it'll etc.
Week 6 - compound words
e.g. foot and ball becomes football,
rain and bow becomes rainbow etc.
