Can they spell words with the sounds using the different spelling patterns?
Can they read a story and find words where the different spelling patterns have been used for the same sound?
Week 1 - ay = ay, ai, a_e
ee = ee, e_e, ea, ey
ie = ie, i_e, igh, y, i
oa = oa, oe, o_e, ow
ue = ue (oo and yoo, ew (oo and yoo), u_e (oo and yoo)
Week 2 - au = au, aw, or, ore
ou = ou, ow
oy = oy, oi
ir = ir, ur, er, ear
wh = wh, w
ph = ph, f, ff, gh

What does the term mean?
Can they give examples where the term has been used?
Can they spell the examples correctly?
Week 3 - Homophones (words that make the same sound but have different meanings and spellings) - e.g. to, too, two,
there, their, they're, Etc.
Week 4 - Past tense - 'ed' endings for verbs - e.g. jump becomes jumped,
walk becomes walked, Etc.
Week 5 - 'ing' endings for verbs - e.g. read becomes reading,
run becomes running, Etc.
Week 6 - Remaining suffixes: 'ly', 'er', 'est', 'ful', 'less', 'ment', 'ness'
